The Opportunity

Our US Pipeline Safety Compliance team is seeking a One Call Specialist for a team that successfully manages one call tickets. The One Call Specialist is a strategic member of our pipeline safety team. The Specialist will support our commitment to safety, particularly with regards to safely operating our pipelines without injury to people or property while preventing third party damage and enhancing public safety awareness.

What you'll do

The incumbent will be responsible for receiving, accessing and processing excavation notification (one call) tickets utilizing a ticket management internet-based application, as well as other computer-based applications. The One Call Specialist will also communicate with the field and contractors in support of these excavations and route the information properly. There will be a focus on safety, effectiveness, and continuous improvement.

  • Interprets and processes one call tickets from receipt through the ticket lifecycle to closure.
  • Understands applicable company plans, procedures and other documents necessary to facilitate one call role.
  • Utilizes industry best practices and company procedures throughout the one call function.
  • Ability to quickly respond to Emergency/High Priority notifications.
  • Work effectively with other groups to maintain consistency in work product.
  • Supports Damage Prevention efforts and assures the one call role aligns with the other company processes.
  • Establish a strong personal working knowledge of work processes, procedures and system logistics.
  • Identifies potential issues with processes to help assure timely correction, mitigation and communication to applicable stakeholders if appropriate.
  • Provides or coordinates training for field personnel on appropriate processes and/or technologies to be used to ensure accurate one call ticket handling.
  • Collaborates with state one call Centers to ensure company facilities are accurately mapped and properly protected.
  • Consults maps, files, GIS (Geographic Facility Information System), and other applicable software to verify contractors' line locations.
  • Acts as liaison to Field Operations and One Call Centers
  • Maintains effective communication with key stakeholders, including Operations, Engineering, Gas Control and Monitoring Center personnel.

Additional responsibilities will be determined by current and future business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess a safety mindset
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Must possess attitude of responsiveness and excellent call-handling and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and sense of urgency to protect people, our communities, and the environment by having an interdependent safety mindset, explicitly meeting applicable regulatory obligations and a continuous focus on incident free operations.
  • Must possess the ability to comprehend and interpret data
  • Computer experience required - must possess the PC skills and experience to navigate various Windows-based software. Must have ability to learn PC applications such as IRTH, mapping software, etc. and ability to learn company applications such as SAP, etc.
  • Ability to accurately interpret geographic media, i.e., maps both paper and electronic
  • Must have strong decision making and problem-solving skills, even in the absence of complete information
  • Must be able to work productively in a team-based, professional, open officeenvironment
  • 15-20% yearly travel possible (Conferences and meetings)

Preferred Qualification

  • College degree preferred
  • Excavation one call experience is a plus
