Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Greets and registers patients for Urgent Care services. Duties include, but are not limited to, obtaining and verifying patient's demographic/medical/insurance information, data entering patient information into the electronic medical record, and assuring completion of required documentation.

Provides general administrative and clinical assistance to physicians/APP's treating patients.

Essential Duties:

  • Greets and registers patients for Urgent Care services. Duties include, but are not limited to, obtaining and verifying patient's demographic/medical/insurance information, data entering patient information into the electronic medical record, and assuring completion of required documentation.
  • Reviews documentation completed by patients to assure accuracy and completeness of information; contacts others as necessary to confirm data or resolve errors.
  • Checks patients out following completion of care. Duties include, but are not limited to, collecting payments/copays for services rendered, and completing all paperwork/forms as required.
  • Typing and computer skills necessary for the creation and compilation of various departmental records and documents. Organizational skills to prioritize work flow and maintain patient records and files.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to provide courteous and accurate information, on the phone and in person, to Hospital personnel, physicians, patients, families, and insurance company representatives.
  • Prepares patients to be seen by the providers. Duties include escorting patient to the exam/procedure room, obtaining vital signs, taking patient's medical history, updating the patient information in the electronic medical record. Providing treatments as prescribed by the providers, including but not limited to administering medications, cleaning wounds, removing sutures, changing patient dressings, explaining procedures and providing emotional support as needed, and preparing the patient for exam/procedure.
  • Assists physicians/APP's with patient procedures as directed.
  • Completes required documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with Hospital policies. Skilled in medical terminology.
  • Triages patients providing information and assistance, completes referrals, calls in prescriptions and notifies appropriate personnel of emergency/urgent situations. Assist in emergency procedures to their skill level.
  • Contacts patients to discuss test results, order additional testing, order new medications, etc. as directed by the providers.
  • Assumes responsibility for preparing and cleaning exam and procedure rooms; restocks supplies, cleans/sterilizes equipment, and notifies appropriate personnel of unsafe conditions and/or equipment in need of repair. Handles reusable instruments properly following hospital procedures.
  • May transport patients to others areas within the Hospital, or assist Emergency personnel in transferring patients, providing all pertinent information for safe transfer.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
General Requirements * CPR/BCLS certification
Work Experience * No prior work related experience required.
Education * Course completion of one of the following programs: Medical Assistant OR * Armed forces medic program OR * 6 months documented Medical Assistant experience in similar clinic setting
Specialized Knowledge and Skills * Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards, and hospital policies related to the provision of patient care including HIPAA, confidentiality, and The Joint Commission standards of practice. * Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation. * Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other health care professionals in the exchange of information. * Typing skills to competently work within the electronic medical record both for registration, chief complaints, and vitals. * Mental ability to complete required documentation in a timely manner, deal with the concerns and emotional needs of patients and their families, and appropriately respond to stressful/emergency situations. * Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, walk extensively, transfer/lift/ reposition/assist patients, and properly utilize the equipment/devices necessary in providing prescribed care to patients. * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
